Dallas the World's Best

Shannon Dallas has continued Australia’s sterling campaign at the IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in Korea, by claiming victory in today’s Super G.

The Paralympian from Terrigal on the NSW Central Coast, slashed his way to the gold medal to become Australia’s second World Champion in just four days.  On Friday, it was fellow Australian Paralympian Cameron Rahles-Rahbula who mastered the High 1 Resort course in Gangwon-Do, when he delivered two outstanding Slalom runs and claimed the World crown.  Today, it was Dallas who attracted the limelight by clinching the gold and stunning the best Paralympic Alpine Skiers on the planet.  The famous victory also cured a case of frustration for the sit-skier, who had looked in medal contention during yesterday’s Super Combined shootout before a slight mistake late in his second run ended any hope. He eventually finished fifth.  But all that was forgotten 24 hours later, as the 31-year-old accepted his new mantle as Super G Champion of the World.  “It was a very successful day for us, a result like that for Shannon was just excellent,” Steve Graham, Australia’s Winter Paralympic Team Head Coach, said.  “To win by more than one second showed that he was the man today.”  In other results for the Australians today, Marty Mayberry finished sixth in the men’s standing ski class with Rahles-Rahbula (10th) and Toby Kane (11th) also just off the pace, while rising star Mitchell Gourley found the going tough in the softening snow later in the day to finish outside the top 20.  The Australian Team will now shift their focus to the concluding race on the World Championship program, Saturday’s Downhill Race at the High 1 Resort layout.
